City Cleans Up: #ReASpana Hits Soshanguve Block L!

The City of Tshwane’s #ReASpana campaign made some discoveries in region 1- Soshanguve Block L.
Where residents joined hands with city officials for a massive clean-up
and service delivery blitz that was aimed to restore pride and order.

In a Meeting where the city officials including Alderman Hannes Coetzee, MMC Community Safety
and Councillor Kholofelo Mashapa were cleaning up Soshanguve Block-L and where they made some discoveries of citizens conducting businesses without any paperwork permitting them to do so.
Inspecting Spaza shops to check whether they comply with the laws imposed on small businesses and ensuring safety in the community.
Four businesses were closed in this clean-up. A salon, IT Café, and two street food vendors who were found operating illegal and were instructed to close their businesses.
Alderman Hannes Coetzee, MMC Community Safety pointed out that they want to make sure that everybody is complying to the law and their focus is zoning.
Whether are these businesses registered as the president issued a directive a while ago as to people should apply for their licenses.
“We only had for about 5000 people that applied in the whole of Tshwane which is a concern”.
He further commented that businesses selling food must comply with the rules and ensure safety in the community.

She mentioned that “the MMC is doing a right job at this moment because we’ve seen cases in Soweto which has not yet been reported here in Soshanguve that people should comply and sell proper food”.
Belief Chauke a street food vendor who woke up that morning to do business as usual and feed his customers was left in disarray when he was forced to close his business for that day and comply with the law.
He commented that, “There’s no business now and they don’t want money, but they want to close our businesses”.
He emphasized that his employer was not with him but lives not far from Soshanguve,
but they intend to notify him of what has happened to his business.
As the Re a Spana operation in Soshanguve Block L wrapped up,
Business owners found operating illegal were given clear directives to cease operations until all necessary legal requirements are met.
Emphasizing the City of Tshwane's firm stance on compliance and accountability.
The intervention highlighted the city's commitment to restoring order and improving service delivery.
Reinforcing the message that sustainable development begins with lawful and responsible practices.
